Pencil Sketch and Signed Limited Editions by Sir William Russell Flint (1880 - 1969)

Sir William Russell Flint was born in Edinburgh in 1880. He was one of the finest water colour artists of all time. His water colours, signed and unsigned limited edition prints are bought by collectors worldwide. Sir William Russell Flint lived in Peel cottage London for many years, where he painted many of his models including his favourite Cecilia Green, whom he painted for fifteen years. Sir William was painting until he died in 1969 when he was 89. His work is held in galleries and museums around the world.

Lawrie Art has a collection of signed letters to Cecila green and her husband John. Cecilia Green trained as a ballet dancer but when she was 20 she was struck down by tuberculois. She then went to model for Sir William Russell Flint. The letters reveal the depth of affection purely platonic that Russell Flint had for his favorite model who posed for him for 15 years. She eventually left his studio and gave up modelling for him which left him devastated.
All written on his own personal headed paper with his address etc printed in red.
